How much voltage should I use

I've been using the variac on all my receivers , Now ,usually 115v is the commom operating voltage for boatanchor receivers I've been using 100v on my Hammarlund sp-600 . It runs cool for long hours . Is this better for the components? I've read that tubes need to be at a certain voltage ( within their specifications) to operate well. Some of the "Collins fanatics" attest to this as well. Be well everybody
