Without the metal cabinet you will have a problem with local stations not being able to be turned down. Can you instal metal between the radio and wood cabinet? It's not so much shielding tubes but rather coils. Coils are picking up local stations.

This problem is also on RCA Radiola 17 and 18 which are in wood cabinets.

::hi. the radio is in a home made wood cabinet. it isnt in the metal cabinet. i was wondering if i should put a metel cover over the tubes. a piece of thin sheet metal maybe? the model forty does the same thing untill i put the metal lid on. and i didnt replce parts in the A.K. 40. thank you
