SAE 5W-20 or 3-in-1 might make for better speed regulation. Depending on the motor, SAE 20 or 20W can make the motor kind of sluggish when cold. The cheap 2 pole motors found in portables are especially sensitive to this. The nice sized 4 pole motor in my Super Silvertone Radio Recorder table model, on the other hand, doesn't mind SAE 20 oil.
