Airline console

:Hi Mike
:
: Is there hum with volume turned down?
:
: If not has any shielded wire been replaced? Is the 1st audio amplifier tube shielded?
:
: When the volume control can be turned down and hum goes away it's usually not electrolytic filter caps. Radios may have a little hum but it shouldn't be heard while receiving a station.
:
: Wires going to the first audio amplifier should be shielded if they are longer than a couple inches. If non shielded wire is used there will be some hum. Try changing routing of any replaced wire around the volume control.

::Hello, Please excuse my ignorance but I need help. I have an Airline console(1930's) that hums. The humming increases with the volume control.Having trouble locating any remaining old-timers that know how to repair it and thought I might attempt it myself. Anyone on the forum any advice? Thanks
