Speaker repair?

May as well try and repair what you have. nothing to lose giving it a try. If you do end up having to replace the speaker with a PM type, the field coil is part of the power supply filter choke. You can use a resistor alright, but it may be best if you can to use a frame type filter choke to smooth out the ripple for better filtering.
