Vinny, Typical "old" speakers may have a felt (dust cover) in the center, which keeps dust and particulates from getting into the gap and interferring with movement of the voice coil. Any coating here would not improve its appearance. Being very porous, liquid might soak through, and if glue, bind the voice coil. Unless moth eaten, the felt doesn't deteriorate like old paper cones.marv :Marv, thank you, do you also coat the middle section and does it affect the sound? :Vinny A. : : : : : : : : ::Vinny, ::I have successfully used a water based Elmers glue that drys flexible/shiny, but is washable and for fabrics, so waterproof. Found in craft shops, water it down a little, and brush on with a fine bristled brush. Old cones are very brittle so use a soft brush. You can also join rips/tears undiluted, and after that paint it on like so. :: ::marv :: :::Greetings to all, :::Has anyone heard of or does anyone use rubber cement to coat speakers? Is there a proven revitalizing method for speaker material? :::Thank you, :::Vinny A. |
