"Air Cell" Techno-info

Attention. . . ATTENTION. . . . all Technophiles. . . all ships at sea. . . . etc . . . .

With no one to consult with, from from the '20-30's, thereby giving me any POSITIVE technical referencing, I went into my high researching mode. Dusting off my old mortarboards and doing some DEEP delving , I came up with this info, that finally puts to rest, my need to positively know about the intricacies of an " Air Cell ".

Initially I knew it was not even remotely associated with a " Bias Cell ", some times used for the supply of a grid biasing to a circuit. That current, of course, being in the infinitestimal microamperes of current draw.

We know that the unit would instead, need to supply in the decades of milliamperes for a filament string.

I had, up to this time, just considered the "Air Cell " to be in the technical category of the lead acid cell with its slightly greater than 2 VDC output, but then not down as low as the 1.5 VDC of a zinc carbon cell.

Thanks to the meeting of technical education needs of the technically inquisitive, back in those olden times, here is a technical write up from the magazine. . . Popular Science . . . at the introduction times of the "Air Cell".

I fully comprehend it now, whereas at its writing time, I would have been having a hard time grasping it as a 3 year old.

Now, as a do-it-yourself project, seems the only exotica being the porous carbon electrodes. . . . I wonder how well compressed and molded "Bucky Ball" Graphite clusters would work, that certainly would provide the most exacting manner of accomplishing a UNIFORM porosity !

Pee Ess. . . .I just HAD to also include the "page filler" article on "Mud Showers"
