6V6 tube

Posted by paul on 05/11/2012 10:13

::hi. ok four 6v6 tubes plus two 10 watt amps. ok i have two 10 watt arkay amps that take 6v6 output tubes. this is a push pull output on these. one amp has a tube line up of one each. 12ax7 12au7 12at7 two 6v6. other is one of each 6sc7 6sL7 6sk7. two 6v6 tubes. in one amp the 6v6 tubes are noisey . these four tubes [6v6] are the same name type. switch them over to the other amp and no noise. same with the other amp noise is gone. very strange. thank you paul

:Wiggle and twist the tubes in their sockets. Could be bad socket connection or poor solder joint to tube lead wire inside socket pin. I have seen this numerous times with 6V6 GT tubes. Different amp / tube pin combinations put pressure in different places on pins and sockets - and also on resistors and capacitors wired with stiff wire to tube sockets. However what you describe is not at all unusual. A tube that is noisy might be quiet in a similar circuit because different bias puts the tube at a different operating point in relation to voltages and currents. EdM

thank you for the info. the sockets are brand new. also resolderd all the conections. the other amp that the tubes work well in has a different mounting. the tubes lying on there side. but if i put the amp in away that the tubes stand straight up then the tube gets noisey. so the tube is the bad seed. thank you. need to get new tube again from A.E.S.
