Silvertone FM issue

Posted by EdM on 05/04/2012 11:53

:I have a Silvertone model 7200 Chassis # 132.40200that has been recapped all paper and E-caps.All resistors are in tolerance.AM band works great tracks good across the band.FM however plays with distortion and the band is compressed to 88-102...102 is 108mhz!!!and nothing past 102.Any ideas??All tubes test strong..

Sounds like someone has diddled with the tuned circuits, including possibly the discriminator transformer. Or there could be a loose connection in a coil or associated capacitor. Or even a missing capacitor in the FM front end or oscillator. Some folks used to 'align' the AM band just by listening to when a weak signal was the loudest; this technique really messes up the FM band. Alignment on the FM band is more difficult than on the AM band. EdM
