| :::Hi all, I have two Crosley 62-TDs that I am re-capping. There is a cap inside valued at .05uf, 120 V.A.C. It connects between pin 3 of the 35Z5, and pin 5 of the 12SK7. (according to the schematic). One radio has a standard .05 630v axial in it's place, and the other has a 33uf 400V electrolytic in it's place. As I am a bit new to the hobby, I have never seen a capacitor rated as V.A.C.in an old radio. What is a correct replacement for the original? I have seen photos of the underside of this radio and the original cap actually does say .05uf 120V.A.C. Thanks for any help! Tim ::: ::Tim, :: ::Use a 0.05 MFD at 630 VDC. The 120 VAC is RMS where the P to P would be around 170 volts. :: ::Could get other answers but i have changed these before and used the 0.05 MFD at 630 VDC with no problems. :: ::Mitch :: :Thanks Mitch, got that done. Now it seems I have a new problem. I am trying to tune the first of the two 62-TDs. I have set up a sig gen, coupled to a freq counter. The Crosley service manual lists the following: 1)output meter connections=voice coil terms of speaker. 2)Gen ground connection=in series with .001uf cap. 3)dummy antenna=400 ohm res. in series with sig. gen. output. I am not sure how to hook up the "dummy" antenna (there are three antenna leads from the back of the radio). Being a transformerless radio, I am assuming that the chassis is not ground, Is this correct? If so, what ground am I looking for? And where do I connect the S/G leads? Thanks in advance for any help for a newbie! Tim : Tim, I have asked Warren to respond to this post, he has been my mentor. I would align this radio with maybe a short cut and it might confuse things. Warren can tell you how to do it by the book. Best of luck, Keep posting, Mitch |
