| Chuck, That's what's so odd. I can't find anything open. However, there is a large mica capacitor in the bottom of the oscillator section. When I measure across it I get zero ohms. It isn't the capacitor because I read the same thing with it out of the circuit. Looking at the schematic, I cannot find anything that could make the resistance zero like that. On further study I find that the RF unit I have in front of me is different from both code 121 and code 125. If you look at service bulletin 249B it clearly shows parts 10 and 14 connected to the cathode of the 6A8. No such parts are in the set in front of me. The cathode is connected directly to the chassis. The schematic shows that the first IF transformer, part 21, has the extra winding (long and short black wires). So does the chassis I have in front of me. So this set seems to be a cross between the code 121 and code 125. However the IF transformer numbers don't match any of the service data I have. The band switch has 4 wafers like the code 121 but the two bakelite capacitors like the 125, making this a very odd set. Maybe someone swapped the IF units at one time because this one had problems. I cannot find anything open, however, I do find zero ohms across the large mica capacitor which isn't in any diagram. It's near the trimmer cap known as part 13 in service bulletin 249b on the first page in thr RF Unit parts diagram. This is not part 8 because that's near part 9 in the diagram. If Iook in there I see another metal mica capacitor but it's smaller in size. Can I e-mail you a picture of this wierd Philco 37-610? Thanks, Dave... |
