| :I'm currently repairing a D7000Y ... : :Looked up the 121-687 and NTE/ECG is currently crossing this to the 107 . But watch the basing ! The tech manual for this radio shows the emitter and base REVERSED! on the (2) 687's in the FM tuner ... Nor does the 107 include the "shield" pin . : :The 316 IS a four lead device, BUT! Be very careful of the basing! : :The 121-692 is shown for the three units in the WB :front end. This one crosses to the 161, which has the :same pinout as the 316 . However, the 692's pinout is :"normal" ... you won't have to twist the leads around :on the replacement to have it match up with the socket. : :I suppose one could _alternately_ rewire the two sockets on the FM tuner and use either the 161 or 316. : :I used a plain old 2n2222 for the FM RF amp, and it's :playing just fine... : :jeff_nospam_picks@hotmail.com ( remove _nospam_ ) : I think I need to clarify my original post a bit: The 316 does not appear to be a DIRECT replacement for the 121-687 . I'm sure it will work, but you MUST reverse the B and E leads before inserting in the socket. Use some SMALL! spaghetti tubing on one of the leads before inserting into socket. My radio uses (3) 121-692 in the Weather band front end. These appear to have "normal" basing, and the NTE161 should be a direct fit. I believe that the 161 should also work in the FM tuner, but you would need to reverse the B and E, as above. The 107 they are currently crossing to the 687 is a plastic TO92 package - WITHOUT the shield lead. It's basing is also normal, and the B and E would need to be reversed to use it also.
VERIFY my information as necessary. My reference is a DjVU file of the original service manual for my radio.
