:Sir A.J. . . . . .
:
:
:You now say . . . . .
:
:
:
:Going to try a PM first. Plan to attach Audio xformer to #97.
:
:
:
:
:Since you are the one with THE set and the eyes . . . I’m blind at this end . . . and can’t physically inspect that set.
:
:
:Do check for the presence of the AF output transformer item #105 ALREADY being in the set and hooked up to plates of the push pull pair of output tubes.
:
:
:If such is the case, then you are ready to go, as is . . . no “ audio transformer” needed, BECAUSE , that #105 IS the AF output transformer and has converted the high impedance matching to that set of tubes on down to an ~ 4 ohm value required .
:
:
:Thereby, making it already prepared for the hook up of a PM speaker of that approximate matching impedance to the mentioned terminal connection NUMBAH 97 ! .
:
:
:If the set is developing B+ to all stages, but NO stations coming in, then your first test of the audio section ---- speaker ----- and B+ presence, could be the spittle moistening of a finger and giving a “Wet Willie” to the grid leak resistor terminal on the tubes grid side.
:
:
:If a loud hu m m m m m m m doth emanate forthwith . . . . . congrANulations . . .. on now having the set working from that point on, thru to the speaker.
:
:One then has to further figure why the RF portion is inoperative.
:
:
:That hasn’t been heard in possibly up to 80 years !

: Try something. . . . if you sit here and think too much, you'll create a problem that wasn't even there in the first place.

:::Sir A.J. . . . . .
:::
:::
:::Now, with Sir Warrens supplied photos's confirmation . . . . that the red unit is the grid leak resistor and is physically in the proximity of the detector tube.
:::
:::
:::The physical position of your mystery fuse /component seems to be in the proximity of the driver stage, a first consideration would be the item # RF choke wound on a 2K resistor form, but thats out, because your unit no way resembles that configuration and construction.
:::
:::
:::Next consideration would be the plate supply / load resistor item for the detector stage item # 27 with a specified resistive value of 50K.
:::
:::
:::Last consideration would be the item # 111, supply resistor to the plate of the AF driver tube.
:::
:::
:::With a value of 5 K that leaves that out.
:::
:::
:::With your part reading the value that you mentioned, methinks that your part is the item #27.
:::
:::
:::Now, either physically track down the wiring connections that are running to that part or use the ohmmmeter, for sorting out the VERY LOW resistance readings to suspected connection points.
:::
:::
::: Pee Ess . . .
:::
:::
:::Got the speaker interfacing solved, and are you using a dynamic, or INITIALLY, just getting the unit working with a PM unit subbed in.?

:::
:::::Here is a picture of your radio. the Grid leak resistor is the redish looking one. The one by the AF tube is probably the resistor you are looking at.

::::Warren, I think it's the "B"RES> (111) 5000 ohm.as one side goes to +90. Neither support post goes to Det grid.

::SIR Ed, As usual you are right, It's #27 60K. What material is in that res? It appears to be an EMPTY glass tube...About ready to Power up.. Going to try a PM first. Plan to attach Audio xformer to #97. OK??
::My SINCERE THANKS for all of you for helping. You just can't beat RADIO FOLKS...aj

SIR Ed, Yes audio Xformer is in set. I do have a Sig Gen.
I need to replace some old crystallized wire. Very difficult to get to CAPS. May try it by Sat. Will let you and the other guys who helped know if it comes to
life. Thank you for your time, aj
