Problems with Stromberg Carlson 126H

Posted by Dave Froehlich on 02/23/2004 15:25

Hello All,
I replaced all paper and filter capacitors as usual. This set has a ton of them. Anyway, for some odd reason I loose the lower parts of both the Police and Shortwave bands after the set is on for about 3 minutes. Everything else is unaffected and the sound is beautiful. Because of this problem, I cannot listen to the BBC World Service for more than 3 minutes at a time. All voltages are as they are supposed to be according to the service data. All connections are also per the service data. In addition, all tubes test good. All resistors are very close in value to what they are supposed to be. If I turn off the radio and leave it off a few minutes, when I turn it on, the problem is gone for another 3 minutes but then returns. The 25Z5 vibrates a bit internally, but I don't think it would cause this problem.
Does anyone have any idea where I should look for the cause of this fading in sensitivity (5-7 Mhz goes away)?

Thanks Very Much,

Dave...
