| :Hi Raymond : : Replace electrolytic filter caps. They are most likely shorted. Some replace all old capacitors as others may be leaky. Caps aren't expensive, can be bought from AES, www.tubesandmore.com and others. : : Don't operate your radio until filter caps are replaced and good 6X5 tubes are in the sockets. Shorted caps or tubes will destroy the power transformer. : :Norm : : ::I picked this radio out of the trash and thought it would be fun to try and make it work agian. Without doing any other repairs, except adding a power cord. I powered it up, it was picking up a couple of AM channels, but after about 10 minutes the two 6X5G rectifier tubes started to arch internally (used 6x5gt tubes). The other tubes still light up, but the 6x5gts are dead. I tried two different tubes and they immediately shorted out. I have a schematic, but it doesn't list voltages. Any suggestions? |
