Zenith 5S56 Voltage on Chassis

Posted by Thomas Dermody on 11/26/2005 00:20

Also, since the chassis is not directly connected to the center tap of the transformer, it is slightly positive with respect to the transformer. You may in fact have a short between the center tap wire of the transformer and one of the 110 volt wires of the transformer. It could be shorted anywhere, though. Probing around on the various leads of the two coils will give you a clue as to which leads the short is closest to. For accurate results, make sure that all leads are connected to nothing that will throw off readings (the plates of the rectifier when cold will not throw off resistance readings....if no condensers on the line cord, no trouble here, either).
